Electro chlorination is the process of producing hypochlorite by running an electric current through salt water.

In this process Sodium hypochlorite is produced which is effectively used for water purification.

When it is injected into the required system, the sodium hypochlorite solution provides efficient protection to the equipment against organic fouling without the undesirable side effects of commercial hypochlorite (such as the build up of hard deposits) or the safety hazard connected with transportation, storage and handling of chlorine gas.

OTHER APPLICATIONS OF SODIUM HYPOCHLORITE

1.Laundry bleach:

– Sodium Hypochlorite is the main ingredient in laundry bleach. It is used extensively as a bleaching agent in the textile, detergents, and paper and pulp industries. It is also used as an oxidizing agent for organic products.

2.Petrochemical Industry:

-It is mainly used for refining petroleum products.

3.Water treatment:

  • It is used as disinfectant for drinking water.
  • It is used in chlorination of swimming pools.

4.It can be used to remove mold stains, dental stains caused by fluorosis,  and stains on crockery, especially those caused by the tannins in tea.
